Wicked

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

*01/20/09, Tuesday – I’ve been listening to a LOT of Wicked music lately ever since we watched the Musical last Tuesday. I HIGHLY recommend it. It is such a grand and epic musical to watch. The story is great and unexpected. The singing was awesome. We were lucky enough to have Nicole Parker play the part of the Wicked Witch of the West. She has such a huge and amazing voice. Cool thing is that she is also known for being part of MADtv and she’s gonna be in an upcoming comedy, Funny People, with Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler due for release Summer 2009. Can’t wait to see her in it.

Happy 4 Year Anniversary!

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Henry and I celebrated our four year anniversary on January 17th. It’s crazy to think it’s been four years already. I’ve never made it to the four year mark before. It’s quite refreshing to think that after all that time, I’m more into him as every before.

I figured I wanted to pretty up this day so I scheduled a hair appointment at 10 in the morning. However, considering we were up til about 3am last night hanging out at Andrew and Amy’s apartment with the group, I started to regret this. I did make it there on time. Through the recommendation of Yelp and the discount from Lifebooker, I figured Platinum Salon would give me a great cut that would satisfy me. I splurge once or twice a year for a haircut and highlights since these things are so expensive. I did learn that I am supposed to trim every two months or so to keep my hair from splitting and destroying itself. Oops =x. Oh well. Anyway the highlights took forever as usual but I didn’t expect the process to last three hours. Tack on another hour for the haircut, I was there from 10am to 2pm. The time went flying by though and I was relaxed, having had no plans for the rest of the day and taking my time. They gave me a free mini facial and the hair dresser had an interesting enough life story to help me forget about the time. My only worry was that Henry had plans that I didn’t know about.

Taking my sweet time ended up biting me in the butt as Henry did have plans and told me to take a taxi ASAP to 49th and Broadway. I could hear the impatience and frustration in his voice and it made me feel guilty. I hurried through paying at the cashier and rushed to the specified area. I didn’t even really get to see what my hair looked like in the end but I was okay with it from what glimpse I had seen.

Henry and I rushed towards a line and we barely made it. He had bought tickets for us to watch the Spring Awakening, a show he had been wanting to see for some time now. He stood in line in six degree weather early morning and was lucky enough to get discount tickets. The play had a slow start. After the first song, I got confused about what was going on. I suppose there was too much innuendo flying about that I couldn’t catch on. However as the show went on, it became abundantly clear what was going on and it became entertaining to watch. In the end, I did like the show. The music, plot and acting wasn’t as spectacular as the previous musicals I’ve been to but this particular one had an interesting twist to it. It’s pretty good and I’m glad to have seen it before it’s last day the next day.

After we watched the musical, Henry and I were starving and thanks to my lack of perception, Henry had led me to Chinatown without my knowing. We ended up eating at our favorite Xiao Long Bao restaurant – New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe at 65 Bayard. It was a nice and satisfying dinner. We wandered around Chinatown a bit after. I admit I was a bit impatient with the random wandering, perhaps because I was cold and wanted to go home or maybe because I had zero interest in Chinese DVDs that I couldn’t understand. Up to now I don’t know what the objective was of the random walking around besides his interest in just chilling. Henry later put himself on a mission to find these particular Chinese New Year candies that he loved so we stopped by a Chinese Supermarket to get them. Turns out later that he got the wrong candies =/.

We headed home after that. I believe we watched TV and ate our home made ice cream (our second batch of delicious vanilla ice cream). Food coma was starting to steal our consciousness away from our anniversary. We decided then to open our presents before we drifted off. I had a gift for Henry sitting underneath the Christmas tree since a week before. I told him it was a Merry Christmas, Happy Anniversary, Happy Valentines Day, Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas gift since it was a big one. He didn’t want to set his expectations too high but he had an idea of what it was. He kept telling himself it was a Wii Fit but to his pleasant surprise, it was as he had hoped. He tore open the wrapping paper and the box to reveal a shiny, new, brushed metal black Dell Latitude E6500. He could hardly believe it but I could see the happiness in his reaction. I bought it for him back during Thanksgiving but there were problems delivering by Christmas because of the Christmas chaos and then I learned later that the D830 I ordered initially was going to be phased out so they had problems releasing it. I decided to get Henry the upgrade instead since it seemed like a better deal and I would be getting it shipped to me around the same time anyway.

It was Henry’s turn to give me a present and I wasn’t really expecting more so it was a pleasant surprise to me. He got me a Guitar Hero guitar/mic stand that held everything in an organized manner. He appealed to my sense of organization this way and got me to tidy up my accessories. He also got me Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80s which I found trouble finding. I was so glad to get my hands on that game. He also got me My Chinese Coach for DS. I’ve been hearing about this game in process but I didn’t know when it was going to come out or if it was going to make it out at all. Henry knew I was trying to learn Chinese and this would help a lot in doing so. He said it was four gifts for four years of our being together. Thank you, Henry!

I had been staying late and getting to work early the week before preparing something for our anniversary and I wanted to give it to him on this day even though he had already opened a present. It was most fitting to present it on our anniversary. I gave him a second gift to open from me and he knew right away just from feeling it within the wrapping that it was a photo album. I had given him a photo album two years before and this was the continuation of it – December 2006 to December 2008. We looked through the pictures and reminisced.

It was a great day for the both of us and I’m blessed to have him as my boyfriend. =)
