SuperBowl Highlights

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

This was the first time I fully watched the Super Bowl and it was a ridiculously crazy and exciting game! The Cardinals had a slow start but was making great progress. They were about to tie the game until Warner’s big mistake when the Cardinals were right at the goal line. Harrison intercepted the ball and ran 100 yards all the way to the Steelers touchdown! That big guy had to get tackled by the wide receivers Fitzgerald and Breaston and the only reason he got that touchdown was because his knee got on Fitzgerald instead of the floor. He completely collapsed at the end of that run and needed an oxygen mask to revive him. That big turnover put the Steelers in a big lead by ten points.

After that, the Cardinals were just getting penalized left and right for holding and personal fouls. They lost 106 yards because of this. The defense had the toughest time as the foul gave the Steelers twice as many chances to score a touchdown. The gap was huge by the third quarter and it looked like all was lost for the Cardinals. However, Arizona is known for their explosive offense and within four minutes, they were able to score a touchdown much thanks to Fitzgerald. In that fourth quarter, they were three points above the Steelers with two minutes left on the clock. All the Cardinals had to do was hold them back but the Steelers just plowed through with a huge pass. The Steelers made it all the way to the goal and had under a minute left to score. The Cardinals managed to stop one attempt but they could not keep the ball away from Holmes as he took control of that ball and made sure both tiptoed feet were inbound.

The Cardinals could have had a sliver of a chance at the very end with twenty something seconds on the clock. They used both timeouts but Cardinals fumbled the ball for an anti-climatic end game. =[

The team I was rooting for lost but they showed that they belonged in the Super Bowl. I’m glad to have watched such an awesome game. ^^

Super Bowl Sunday!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Super Bowl is at 6pm on NBC. Pittsburgh Steelers vs Arizona Cardinals!

Will the NFL’s top rated Steel Wall defense shut down the Cardinals, dominating all the bird teams that played in the top four during playoffs? Will the Cardinals’ not-so-secret weapon, Larry Fitzgerald, with his crazy speed, agility, and postseason record of 419 receiving yards (surpassing Jerry Rice), be able to slip past the iron defense?

The Steelers are no strangers to the Super Bowl and they are favored to win with their team of superstars and experience on their side. Cardinals on the other hand has suffered the longest championship drought in the NFL. However, with the new coach, Ken Whisenhunt (formerly Steelers offensive coordinator!) spearheading the team since 2007, the Cardinals have a much better chance to counteract Mike Tomlin’s defense.

Let’s not forget the most important player on the team. Kurt Warner, the Cardinal quarterback, is the team’s Ace. He’s got the Super Bowl MVP award in Super Bowl XXXIV and is ranked third all-time in career passing rating and is the second-most statistically accurate quarterback in NFL history behind Chad Pennington. He also played briefly as QB for the NY Giants before Manning took over.

Ben Roethlisberger (aka. Big Ben), the Steelers QB, is ranked seventh in NFL passer rating. He’s got a lot of rookie awards and became the youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback in NFL history (he’s about 11 years younger than Warner). He’s young, having started his professional career in 2004, but he’s got a lot of potential.

That should be enough to give you a brief overview of what’s going on.

So, place your bets! Who do you think will win? You know you want to watch!

NFL’s Giants

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

I’ve recently acquired a fascination with following football. Henry has informed me enough about the game to get a good grasp of what’s going on, especially when it comes to the New York Giants. I’ve learned to get so engrossed in the competitive aspect of the game that I would stay up even longer than Henry does just to see how the game ends. I’m sad that the 49ers aren’t doing as well as their former glory but I’m glad I got to root for the Giants at least for part of the playoffs.

Can you believe it? Pennsylvania teams beat both California and New York. The Giants fell to the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers fell to Pittsburgh Steelers. I wonder what happened to Manning. It seemed so much easier for other teams to get completions and Manning is supposed to be a great Quarterback. I’m rooting for the Arizona Cardinals to win now since I don’t want the Eagles to win and I didn’t really get to see the Ravens play so I’m not invested in that team at all. I’m thinking Cardinals vs Steelers for the Superbowl.
