Bryan and Carol’s Wedding

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

*6/9, Saturday – Congratulations to Bryan and Carol! It was a nice wedding. Henry and I got there about 15 minutes late and missed the bride walking again. Sux. I’m getting sick of being late all the time and want to make it a point to go back to being punctual. I used to be so disciplined before and I want it back. In fact, I’m ridiculously early to work today. Got here at 8:15am. I am pretty sure I can leave the apartment earlier (7:30am) to make it here by 8am. That would be a nice goal. This way I won’t feel bad leaving at 6:00pm to do my scheduled activities.

Anyway, the wedding was at 4pm at the Swan Club. There were a bunch of weddings going on there and it was like a marriage maze getting around. The weddings were criss-crossing each other a bit. The cocktails were filling. Bunch of meat dishes and some pasta. I ate enough to be satisfied until dinner later that day. I guess that was sorta our lunch as we only ate snacks for lunch. We headed to the reception area and sat with our small group. It was kinda weird stopping and going with the dancing. It takes me a while to get into the mood and I had to start up again several times. The music kept switching up so sometimes it was good to dance to and other times I didn’t know how to dance and kinda just swayed side to side. Actually the first time we got up the crowd was very reminiscent of the clubbing crowd and I could hardly move. I feel like I’ve forgotten how to dance. I don’t dance nearly as much as I used to. Hope to take classes again.

I ate the steak (prime rib I believe) and potato for dinner. Henry and I were being good about our diet plans and only ate some ice cream and passed on the red velvet cake. I need to remind myself that I don’t need dessert. It tastes nice but I don’t really need to eat. It’s actually not that big of a deal for me to pass on stuff like that. On the way home I started to think about parts of my life I could improve. I was feeling frustrated about my inadequacies and just wanted to exhibit discipline and just learn stuff, do stuff, improve myself. *shrug* I shouldn’t feel like that after a wedding but I guess stuff like that can pop up in my head at any time. Maybe we’ve just been slacking off too much lately.

Well, enough about me. I really liked how Bryan and Carol were all smiles during the event. I just love the life and happiness that exudes out of that couple. I hope they live a long, happy life together.

*05/23, Saturday – Went to a wedding in Long Island for Henry’s church friends. I didn’t know anyone, didn’t talk much but I had fun anyway. The reception was big (weddings of doctors tend to go bigger). It was at Leonard’s at Great Neck, NY. The place was nice with mirrors everywhere and huge chandeliers. There was a reception at the church and also at the 2nd reception venue. Lots of eating, good food. They had a ton of dessert. A cool part of the wedding was the photograph booth they had. Henry and I took ours right before it broke down so we were lucky. It turned out nicely. I’ll try to scan it or take a picture of it to post online. The MC was cheesy but did a great job of keeping guests entertained. I guess the only thing missing was a long night of dancing. It seemed to get cut short and perhaps the song selection could have been better. Henry says if he had a wedding reception he would do a full night of dancing. =) Either way I have fun at weddings and I was glad I got invited. Looking forward to the next one in June – Bryan and Carol’s!

Debbie and Webster’s Wedding

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

*04/22/09, Wednesday – Bought dresses for weddings from Loehmann’s. Great store for cheap dresses! Need most of them altered though =/.

*04/25/09, Saturday – Webster and Debbie’s wedding. Ah I enjoy weddings. The ceremony was nice n sweet. It was at the Tribeca Rooftop overlooking NYC. It was a bit on the windy side though and we were outdoors. We went downstairs to the reception area. They had greek food n stuffs. I liked their hors d’oeuvre. Especially the small triangular creamy spinach thing and the lil pigs in a blanket. Their food was good too.. good meat and some fish dish. The dancing was a lot of fun. Even though we didn’t know a lot of people there and only knew our small group, Henry and I danced the night away. It was the first time in a while and it was nice to let loose.

Kyle And Tiffany’s Wedding

Monday, July 14th, 2008

*07/05/08, Saturday – Congratulations to Kyle and Tiffany! Woke up early, did my hair. Mod drove Foo and I to the reception restaurant to bring stuff over. Yeah I carried stuff in heels. what. He drove us and ben to Jay’s place where Foo and I just hung out and met Jay’s roomie and friend. They were making desserts for the wedding.

Jay drove Foo and I grabbed lunch with Dave, Joyce and Dan at . Foo and a bunch of others I knew were ushers and I sat down near the front but later moved back when family occupied my row (awkward). Mod, Ben, Dave and Kevin were groomsmen. It was a nice wedding. Tiffany looked beautiful. Funny thing when Tiff tried to put the ring on Kyle’s finger, she had a hard time putting it in. Same thing with Anna and Rob. What’s with grooms plumping up on their wedding days? =P. In the middle of the wedding, Nebula and Robin sang a great song which Robin wrote herself. I hope to get an mp3 of it someday. Ah I wish I recorded this whole thing.

We took a big Berkeley group picture after. I need to get this picture too!

After the wedding, a bunch of us (Krispy, Mod, Foo, Jay, etc) went to Yogurt Land. It was my first time there. Red Mango is my favorite place to go to for dessert in NY so when I found out Yogurt Land lets you make your own concoction with their different yogurts and toppings I got excited and went overboard. I got a 5.17 oz bowl of yogurt and ate it all. It was about twice as much as most other people got but it was about 5 bucks which was so much cheaper per ounce compared to Red Mango! It made me look forward to living in that area someday.

By the time we got to the reception area I was full. I couldn’t eat much =[. I sat with the good old StarCraft (now DOTA) players. There was one other girl at the table who showed up later – Shiney or something. Nobody really knew who she was. Jirat was also supposed to sit at the table but she didn’t show up. I sat with Foo, Krispy, Dan, Kelly, Jay, Jason right next to the stage. Joyce and some dude MCed. They had the groomsmen and bridesmaids dance their way in to the music of their choice. A highlight of the night was when Mod and Robin tangoed their way in. Mod was so out of character with his boldness, dancing and acting that it impressed the entire audience. I hope to see the full video of this someday. I was so blown away that I didn’t get around to taking the entire video of this and only got the tail end of the dance.

Kyle and Tiffany had their first dance which was so nice to watch it felt like I was watching a fairytale princess dance with her prince. Maybe it was the music. (Someone please tell me what that song is called.)

They had other stuff too like the mother-husband/father-daughter dances and the lessler family even prepared the kung fu panda dance for Kyle and Tiffany to watch. They had the slideshow of course. I wasn’t in any of it but that’s okay. I think I knew Kyle a lot more before my picture taking days. I will always remember when I first talked to him outside of class. I was walking past Sproul plaza and he just stood there pointing at me. I had this o.O face because I had no idea who he was but I went to him and I realized he was in my Philosophy class and that was when I started hanging out with him.

They also had the bouquet toss. I have totally given up on those things. I just stand at the side and take pictures of it. I feel like its totally useless. I don’t want to catch the bouquet. I find no reason to. I don’t want some random guy to put a garter up my leg or be subject to other random whatever things people come up with. I guess Rob did it right when he bribed guys to fight for the garter with money attached to it back at his wedding. Kyle and Tiffany tried to change things up a little bit by throwing twice and having a contest to see which couple could get the garter up the leg first with chopsticks. Mod got the garter so he sat down so he wouldn’t have to put the garter up the girl’s leg (smart move) and the other guy sat down too. Robin was Mod’s partner (coincidentally) and some young girl was the other guys partner. The Mod/Robin team won.

Oh and each table also had some quiz about the couple on their table and the table with the best scores won a prize like spam which was Kyle’s favorite food. Our table didn’t know anything about Tiffany and not as much as we would like to know about Kyle so we didn’t get anything. Every table had the opportunity to write a poem for the couple as well. Joyce wouldn’t read our poem out loud. This is what we had:

Roses are red. Violets are blue.
Kyle plays DOTA, and so should you. (tiff)

(Krispy came up with the first line and I came up with the second. =x)

The food was the regular chinese seafood banquet. I didn’t eat much of the seafood but I ate some meat. It was okay though since I was still full from the yogurt -_-;;. Funny thing was the groomsmen kept coming to our table to get more food. The music was quite varied. They switched up younger generation music with older generation music. They never really stuck to one long enough for me to want to go dancing. Mod, again out of character, was the one who tried to pull me and Foo to dance. o.O I danced for a little bit, knowing that it was the only time I would be able to dance with Dave and Joyce since they don’t go clubbing with me at all.

It was a good reception. I got to talk to Foo for a bit afterwards and we waited around until everyone was ready to go. Mod brought Foo and me back to his place and we conked out, tired from the party.

Robert and Anna’s Wedding

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

*06/07/08, Saturday – I was having lunch with Sung right before the wedding so when he picked me up and we ate at some random Thai restaurant along Ocean, I was quite dressed up. I also had my hair cut, retouched and waved the day before, courtesy of Topaz from Dramatics (Henry’s recommendation). This hairdo lasted through a six hour plane flight and sleeping overnight. I was impressed about that. Topaz had used GHD (Good Hair Day) flat iron and spray. Sung and I had some time to kill before the wedding so we stopped by Japantown for dessert. We ended up eating at Dennys which was apparently being renamed to “The New Danny’s Restaurant.” We split a chocolate cake there. Then he dropped me off at St. John’s church.

The wedding was short and sweet. It went flawlessly. The only thing I didn’t like was the passage read. I will never come to turns with that women being submissive line. Pastor Abel had presided and he did explain that the heart of the passage was really the submission to each other.

Daniel and Esther were there, people I knew from GRX. I hitched a ride with them and we killed time doing errands. Esther got her tire fixed and I got oil blotters from Walgreens. Then we stopped by Tim/Jon Park’s place where Tim, JP and Al were hanging out watching America’s Best Dance Crew live auditions. It was nice watching west coast auditions with them because they had the same west coast pride and I felt a sense of comraderie with them.

We didn’t stay for long as we had a reception to go to. I sat in a table full of Rob’s old clubbing buddies. They were only four years older yet they felt old around me. It turns out most of them (if not all) were engaged. The girl beside me, Christine, got drunk and loud as the night progressed and had started to scream out “don’t get married” claiming that it was a bad idea even if she was engaged herself. I guess she got really stressed from it. I also met the girl next to her, Angela. I wanted to start slow by remembering a few names at a time but I never got around to the rest of the table.

Ray was supposed to sit next to me but he wasn’t at the wedding ceremony and he wasn’t there yet so Esther decided to take his seat next to me. Ray showed up later and sat at the other table where he didn’t know anyone else. I was glad I knew Esther at the table but I felt bad Ray got kicked out so I visited his table once in a while and after eating, when Esther left, I got him to join the table he was originally supposed to be a part of.

The rest of the night was dancing. I hardly knew anyone there so I danced by myself for a good part of the time. At the same time most of the people on my table were up there on the dance floor so I felt comfortable joining them. Pretty cool. After the reception, everyone headed over to an after party which wasn’t too eventful for me. I conked out in the middle of it at around 1-1:30am then went back to sleep a few hours later. I felt the jet lag.
