Euro Bank Account

Monday, July 14th, 2008

*07/11/08, Friday – I decided not to go for a Euro bank account anymore. It saddens me greatly but I felt like it wasn’t worth it in the end.

Pro:
- Euro is more stable than USD
- May make money with conversion at right times

Con:
- $50,000 minimum balance
- $40/month while minimum balance is not met
- Can’t use money in Euro
- Account is a savings account. There is no debit account.
- If I reach the $50,000 minimum balance, I can’t use money in it if I want to avoid the $40/month fee unless I go over $50K.
- Can’t use money for other investments
- Money may need to be taken out if I buy a home
- If I try to make money and convert to dollars at the right times, I will need to closely monitor the exchange rate which will take time and effort.
- My accounting will get complicated with multiple currencies and with the fluctuating Euro-USD conversion rate

Free Credit Report

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

*06/30/08, Monday – Thanks to Anton for taking my eyes off work and getting me into more internet research =P. This time, I’m interested in my credit report. I resist the urge to look into this without any research because I know checking credit report if you don’t know what you’re doing can result in 1) your credit score getting affected, 2) the site charging extra fees, 3) getting a report that isn’t complete. Well, I finally looked it up today and here’s what trusted information I got:

From Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Consumer Information:

“The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, has prepared a brochure, Your Access to Free Credit Reports, explaining your rights under the FCRA and how to order a free annual credit report.

A credit report includes information on where you live, how you pay your bills, and whether you’ve been sued, arrested, or filed for bankruptcy. Nationwide consumer reporting companies sell the information in your report to creditors, insurers, employers, and other businesses that use it to evaluate your applications for credit, insurance, employment, or renting a home.
How do I order my free report?

You can order your free annual credit report online at annualcreditreport.com, by calling 1-877-322-8228, or by completing the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mailing it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.

When you order, you need to provide your name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth. To verify your identity, you may need to provide some information that only you would know, like the amount of your monthly mortgage payment.”

GameRiot Expenses

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

*06/27/08, Friday – After spending about half the week organizing my receipts every free time I had, I finished a few days ago and I was finally free to report my expenses from last year! I hope it’s not too late. Last time I saw Brad a few months ago, he said it wasn’t. I got my act together and spent some of yesterday and most of today figuring out expenses, organizing my receipts, preparing credit card statements, scanning them in, double checking and sending it to Gameriot. Phew! Another task off my plate! I sure hope they pay me back as I really need that money. I’m on a roll when it comes to life stuff. Most of what’s left is really just following up on stuff. There isn’t really anything urgent on the list anymore. I am excited about revamping my site though. I spent some time just thinking about what I would do to reorganize everything and make it better. I do have to start changing my focus back to work though. I have a flash/flex site to localize!
