Shoes

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

So on one of my recent subway rides, I noticed that I not only have one hole on my precious Asics Gel sneakers, I now have two! I am in dire need of new sneakers. Actually I need a whole list of new shoes.

    Ordered from Need to Want:

  1. Tennis Shoes/Running Shoes/Sneakers (white and blue)
    - for gym and sports.
    - (like this, or this)
    - my current one is worn out.

  2. Walking Shoes/Casual Shoes (black or brown)
    - for use without socks for NY speed walking around the city.
    - (like this, or this)
    - my current one doesn’t fit.

  3. Dance Shoes/Sneakers (colored or with black as a prominent secondary color)
    - for hip hop/breaking.
    - (like this?, or this?)
    - my current one is not the most comfortable with a lot of side to side and jump movements.

  4. Flip Flops
    - waterproof for the beach, comfortable for NY speed walking around the city.
    - my current one is worn out.

  5. Open Toe Heels (black)
    - for formal wear with dresses.
    - my current one is getting worn.

  6. Tall Boots (black)
    - for casual wear with jeans or skirt.
    - (like this)
    - my current one is worn out.

  7. Hiking Boots (black)
    - goes well with shorts and regular socks.
    - (like this, or this)
    - don’t have a current one but i like this look and i like to stomp with my shoes.

  8. Freeform Shoes (black)
    - for lyrical/contemporary dance.
    - (like this)
    - don’t have one but this would be nice for the few but occasional lyrical/contemporary class. i probably wouldn’t use this very much though since I can wear socks to my lyrical class.

Daily Menu Modification

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

So I found out that no matter what I put in the mypyramid.gov calculator that’s less than my weight, the recommended daily calorie intake is still 1600. I tried a bunch of other calculators and.. results are inconsistent -_-;; It’s actually recommended I intake 1396 Calories/day according to http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm. 1551.25 to 1613.3 according to http://www.weight-loss-center.net/daily_calorie_calculator.html. 1500 to 1650 according to http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598. 1249 according to http://www.nutri-facts.com/calintake.php. Henry suggests I target a 1400 calorie diet. I guess 1400 is a good average goal to go for.

Breakfast GRAIN 1 waffle (= 1 ounce) [83 (F 0.4)]
Breakfast/Snack GRAIN 1 Fiber One Chewy Bar [140 (F 9)]
Breakfast/Snack 1 Chewable Vitamin C Tablet [0]
223 calories

Lunch MEAT 2 sandwich slice of chicken/turkey (= 2 ounces) [290]
Lunch GRAIN 2 slices bread (= 2 ounces) [250 (F 2)]
Lunch MILK 2 slices hard cheese (= 1 cup) [50]
590 calories

Lunch VEGETABLES (Dry Beans & Peas) black/pinto beans, tofu [3 cups weekly] [W120 (F 10)]
Lunch VEGETABLES (Orange) carrots, sweet potato [2 cups weekly]
Lunch/Snack VEGETABLES (Dark Green) broccoli, spinach, lettuce [3 cups weekly] [W18]
Lunch/Snack VEGETABLES (Starchy) corn, green peas, white potatoes [3 cups weekly] [W270 (F 7)]
Lunch/Snack FRUIT 1 Banana/Apple/100% fruit juice a day (= 1 cup) [63 (F 2.5)]
91 calories

Dinner MEAT 1 small lean hamburger/small chicken breast half/fish (= 3 ounces) [244 (F 1.4)]
Dinner GRAIN 1 cup cooked rice/cooked pasta (= 2 ounce) [170]
414 calories

Dinner VEGETABLES (Other) V8 mixed vegetable juice [4.84 cups weekly]
Dinner/Snack FRUIT 3 pieces of Dried Mango
82 calories

= 1400 calories total

I pretty much just nixed most of my after dinner snack. And I guess since I’m out of fiber ones for now I’m open for about 100 more calories.

Chinese Class

Monday, May 18th, 2009

I am going for another round of 12 weeks of chinese class. I’ve gone through a few classes now and my classmates keep switching up. I have the spanish guy and older lady with me now. I like how the teacher focuses a lot on pronunciation so I get a lot of practice with tones. However, I feel behind in vocabulary. Its harder to learn when I hear words mentioned once and then forgotten and not used often enough to stick in memory. I guess I will need to learn these words on my own.

Oh another cool thing is we started learning how to write characters. I’ve been doing it a bit before c/o My Chinese Coach on DS but my teacher taught the right way to use the pen and hold it as well as going through which strokes go in which order. Its pretty cool. I’m going slow learning but I’m trying to learn each word as thoroughly as possible – the meaning, the sound, the pinyin, the reading and writing of characters, and the utterance with the right tone. I hope I am improving! My teacher says I write characters well and speak it (after her) well. ^_^

HAIGHT ASHBURY STREET FAIR

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

*06/08/08, Sunday – Went to eat lunch near the haight ashbury street fair. It was a breakfast type lunch which was good but I could never finish my food. Headed for the fair afterwards. It was just a street full of people with vendors along the side and a band playing (sorta) at certain points of the street. It was interesting. I guess its a place to hang out with friends. Went to church after and had another grx dinner. Good times. Glad they are still happy and ready to hang out when I visit.

ALEX VISITS

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

*06/12/08, Thursday – I got out of work late but it was the only time Alex could meet up with me so I headed over to where he was staying which was on 34th and lexington. We went to a nearby bar. I had eaten leftovers from lunch for dinner thinking Alex already ate but he hadn’t so he ordered some food there. We were sitting down at a restaurant type bar anyway. He ordered some beer and ate some octopus (gross =p) and edamame (which me managed to get me to try.. it was.. edible). We split some california rolls which is like the one thing I would eat at that location. They had weird food. It was the kinda restaurant that serves all types of food in one location. They had Hawaiian, Japanese, and Mexican food. Sadly, I forgot the name of it. It was some two syllable name that started with an M and it’s along 34th and 3rd across from Third and Long.

All the sports bars were packed that night and we didn’t mind choosing a less crowded location. It was nice to be able to sit and chat with him. I met him through clubbing with Vicki and he was there for an interview. It would be cool if he did move to New York so that I could have more of “my” friends around here and he seems like a great hangout buddy.
